TONY LAMBERTON

Tony is a highly experienced orthopaedic surgeon specializing in hip and knee replacement surgery. With 20+ years as a consultant, he has refined his expertise in hip and knee joint replacements and has over a decade of experience in computer-guided knee replacement surgery.

Following his specialist orthopaedic training in New Zealand, Tony was awarded the prestigious Ling Fellowship in Exeter, UK, where he trained under internationally renowned hip replacement surgeons Mr Graham Gie FRCS and Mr John Timperley FRCS. He further expanded his expertise through observerships and visitations across Canada, the USA, and Europe, gaining global insights into advanced surgical techniques.

Tony is dedicated to enhancing patient outcomes through Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS), developing tailored programmes that promote faster recovery and rehabilitation in orthopaedic surgery. His approach combines surgical precision with a focus on patient well-being, ensuring each individual receives the highest standard of care.

Based in Tauranga, Tony enjoys an active lifestyle with his wife and three children. Passionate about skiing and water sports, including paddleboarding, he embraces the coastal beauty of his hometown. As an alumnus of Tauranga Boys’ College, he has been involved in the Old Boys’ Association since 2007, maintaining strong community ties.

IMPROVING PATIENT OUTCOMES

Tony is deeply committed to advancing orthopaedic surgery and improving patient outcomes through research and collaboration.

Since 2005, he has served as the Chairman of the Tauranga Orthopaedic Research Society, a non-profit organisation dedicated to studying surgical outcomes on behalf of orthopaedic surgeons across the Bay of Plenty. With over a decade of collected data, this initiative allows local surgeons to benchmark patient success against international standards, ensuring world-class care for every individual.

Tony has also played a key role in the New Zealand Hip Society, serving as its President since 2016. His leadership helps drive innovation and excellence in hip surgery throughout the country. In addition, since 2015, he has been actively involved in the Expert Faculty Group for the Surgical Site Infection Improvement (SSII) programme, contributing to efforts that enhance patient safety and surgical best practices.

Through his work, Tony continues to support the orthopaedic community, championing advancements that benefit both surgeons and the patients they care for.
