TONY LAMBERTON

Tony is a highly experienced orthopaedic surgeon specializing in hip and knee replacement surgery. With over 20 years as a consultant, he has honed his expertise in hip and knee joint replacements, including more than a decade of experience in computer-guided knee replacement surgery, and since 2024, MAKO robotically assisted knee replacement surgery.

After completing his specialist orthopaedic training in New Zealand, Tony was awarded the prestigious Ling Fellowship in Exeter, UK, where he trained under internationally renowned hip replacement surgeons Mr Graham Gie FRCS and Prof John Timperley FRCS. He further broadened his expertise through observerships and visitations across Canada, the USA, and Europe, gaining global insights into advanced surgical techniques.

Tony is committed to improving patient outcomes through Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS), developing tailored programs that promote faster recovery and rehabilitation in orthopaedic surgery. His approach combines surgical precision with a deep focus on patient well-being, ensuring each individual receives the highest standard of care.

Based in Tauranga, Tony enjoys an active lifestyle with his wife and three children. A passionate skier and water sports enthusiast - including paddleboarding - he embraces the coastal beauty of his hometown. As an alumnus of Tauranga Boys’ College since 2007, maintaining strong ties to his community.

TONY’S COMMITMENT TO

IMPROVING PATIENT OUTCOMES

Tony is deeply committed to advancing orthopaedic surgery and improving patient outcomes through research and collaboration.

Since 2005, he has served on the Research Committee of the Tauranga Orthopaedic Research Society, a non-profit organisation dedicated to studying surgical outcomes on behalf of orthopaedic surgeons across the Bay of Plenty. With two decades of collected data, this initiative allows local surgeons to benchmark patient success against international standards, ensuring world-class care for every individual.

A leader in the field, Tony has played a pivotal role in the New Zealand Hip Society, serving as its President from 2016 - 2019. His leadership has helped drive innovation and excellence in hip surgery nationwide.

In addition, Tony has also been a management committee member of the New Zealand Joint Registry since 2021, contributing to the ongoing development of national orthopaedic data to enhance patient outcomes.

Tony played a key role in developing training courses for the Exeter Total Hip in New Zealand. He has taught on more than 20 courses in New Zealand, Australia and the UK.

Through his work, Tony continues to support the orthopaedic community, championing advancements that benefit both surgeons and the patients they care for.
